Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit

After two days in Sychar, Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit. He testified that a prophet does not have honor in his own country.

This is when Jesus began to preach the Gospel of God. He also told the people that the kingdom of God was near

Word of this spread throughout the entire region. He began to teach in their synagogues, receiving glory and honor from all.

Jesus meet Samaritan women at a city called Sychar

Jesus and his disciples came to a city called Sychar, which was near a field that the Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

He sent his disciples into town to buy food. While Jesus was sitting alone, a Samaritan woman came to draw some water.

Jesus said to her:

Give me a drink.

The Samaritan women was surprised and asked him:

How is that you who are a Jew would ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink? (The Jews did not associate with the Samaritans)

Jesus said to her:

If you only knew the gift of God and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.

The woman said to Jesus:

Sir, you have nothing to use to draw water out of the well, and the well is deep. Where are we going to get living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, along with his sons and his cattle?

Jesus said:

Everyone who drinks this water will thirst again: but whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I give him will become a well of water in him springing up to eternal life.

The woman said:
Sir, give me this water so that I will never be thirsty again or need to come all this way to draw water from the well.

Jesus said to her:
Go call your husband and both of you come back here.

The woman answered:
I do not have a husband.

Jesus said to her:
You have answered correctly that you do not have a husband, for you have had five husbands and the man your now living with is not your husband. You have told the truth.

The woman said to Jesus:
I perceive that your are a prophet. Our fathers worshipped on this mountain; and you Jews say that Jerusalem is the proper place to worship.

Jesus said to her:
Woman, believe me, the hour is coming, when neither this mountain nor in Jerusalem shall be the place to worship the Father. You worship ignorantly: We worship intelligently, for salvation is from the Jews.

But the hour is coming, and now is here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. These are the kind of worshippers that the Father is seeking to worship him. God is Spirit and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.

The woman said:
I know the Messiah, the one called Christ, is coming; when he comes, he will declare all things to us.

Jesus said:
I, the one who is speaking to you, am he.


The woman left her water pot and went away to the city, and said to the townspeople:
Come see a man who told me all the things I ever did. Can this be the Christ?
People began leaving the city to find Jesus.


Jesus said to them:
My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work. Do not say, Aren’t there still four months before the harvest?

I tell you, Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, they are white and ready for harvest. He that reaps the harvest receives a wage, and gathers the fruit; the one that sows the seed and he that reaps the harvest will rejoice together. For here is a true saying: One sows and another reaps.

I send you to reap where other have sown the seed, and you have become a part of their labor.

Many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the Samaritan woman who testified that Jesus had told her everything she ever did.

When the Samaritans found Jesus, they asked him to stay with them. He did, for two days. Then many more believed because of his word.

Jesus Goes to Galilee

It was about this time that Herod, governor of Galilee, who had been reproved by John the Baptist for taking his brother’s wife and for all the other evil things that he did, sent soldiers to arrest John.
After John was put into prison, Jesus left Judea and headed for Galilee. He knew that the Pharisees erroneously thought he was baptizing more disciples than John.

Jesus and his disciples went to Judea where they began to baptize. John also continued to baptize in Aenon near Salim because there was a lot of water in that area.

Jesus’ disciples were the ones doing the baptizing; Jesus did not baptize anyone.

The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. He who believes in the Son has eternal life. But those who do not obey the Son shall not see life.

Nicodemus Visits Jesus by Night

There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, who came to visit Jesus by night.

Nicodemus said to Jesus:
Teacher, we know that you have come from God because no one can do the miracles that you are doing unless God is with him.

Jesus answered:
Pay attention to the truth I am going to reveal to you. Unless a person is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven.

Nicodemus asked:
How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter into his mothers womb a second time and be born?

Jesus said:
Pay attention to the truth I am going to reveal to you. Unless you are born of water and the Spirit, you cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Everything that is born of the flesh is flesh; that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I say, ‘You must be born again’. The wind blows wherever it will blow and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it came from or where it is going. So it is with everyone that is born of the Spirit.

Nicodemus asked:
How can this be?

Jesus said:
Aren’t you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things. I am speaking about things that I know and telling you things I have seen, but you will not believe my testimony. If I told you about earthly things and you don’t believe them, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

Jesus continued:
No one has ascended into heaven, except the one who descended out of heaven, the Son of man, who is in heaven.

And just like Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, in the same way so must the Son of man be lifted up; that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

For this is the way in which God loved the world, he gave his only begotten Son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world but he sent him so that the world should be saved through him.

He who believes in him is not judged: He who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Jesus made a drove those who were selling livestock and changers of money out of the temple. He turned over the table of the money changers.

He said to those who were selling doves:

Take these away from here and do not make my Father’s house a house of merchandise.

Jesus told them:

Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.


The Jews answered back:

It took 46 years to build this temple and you will raise it up in three days?


But Jesus was not talking about the temple in Jerusalem, he was talking about the temple of his body.

Later, when Jesus was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered what he had said. They believed the Scripture, and the words which Jesus had spoken.

While Jesus was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in him because they witnessed the signs he performed.

But Jesus knew the hearts of men, and did not trust them. He didn’t need anyone to tell him what men where like.

Three days after Jesus called Philip to follow him, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee that was being attended by Mary, the mother of Jesus. Jesus had also been invited.

Before the marriage festivities were over, they ran out of wine. Mary came to Jesus and told him that they had no more wine.

Jesus made the same point with Mary when he was only 12 years old when he stayed in Jerusalem to be about his father’s business in the temple.

His mother said to the servants:

Do whatever he tells you to do.

There were six stone water pots that the Jews used for ceremonial washing of hands before they ate. Each water pot held between 18 and 27 gallons of water.

Jesus told the servants to fill the water pots with water. They filled them to the brim. Jesus then told the servants to fill a cup from the water pot and take it to the ruler of the feast. They did as Jesus said.

When the ruler of the feast tasted the water that had become wine, not knowing where it came from, he called the bridegroom and said:

Usually the good wine is brought out first, and then after everyone has had a chance to drink freely, the poorer quality wine is brought out. But you have kept the good wine for last.

This is the beginning of the signs that Jesus did in Cana of Galilee. The signs and wonders he did manifested his glory. And Jesus’ disciples believed in him.

Jesus Visits Jerusalem

Every year Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of the Passover. When Jesus was 12 years old he went up to Jerusalem with his parents to celebrate the custom of the feast.

After the celebration, Mary and Joseph went home, thinking Jesus was in the crowd that was returning to Nazareth. But Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem.

One day passed and Jesus’ parents realized, after searching all over for Jesus, that he was not among them. They immediately returned to Jerusalem.

After three days, they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers. Jesus was listening and asking questions. Everyone who heard Jesus was amazed at his understanding and his answers.

When Mary and Joseph saw Jesus they were astonished. Mary said to Jesus:

Why have you treated us this way? Your father and I have been worried sick looking for you everywhere.

Jesus said to them:

How is it that you were looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?

Mary and Joseph did not understand what Jesus was saying to them. But they left together to return to Nazareth, as Jesus was subject to his parents.

Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

Not much else is known about the life of Jesus until John the Baptist began his public ministry and Jesus bursts on the scene followed by signs, wonders and miracles.

Jesus claimed to be the Son of God.

Jesus, throughout the Gospels, claimed to be the Son of God. When He spoke of His relation to God He said "My Father" (Matthew 25:34 and 26:29; Luke 2:49 and 24:49; John 20:17.) When He spoke of the disciples' relation to God, He said "Your Father". Even when teaching the "Our Father", He told the disciples how they were to pray to the Father (Matthew 6:9).

Lk 10:22 He claimed equality with God. "All things are given to me by my father; no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom He chooses to reveal Him."

Jesus Is the Only Way to God

This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."

Jesus had perfect and constant fellowship with the Father.

"Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"

And Jesus said, "I am; and you shall see THE SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN."

Tearing his clothes, the high priest said, "What further need do we have of witnesses? "You have heard the blasphemy; how does it seem to you?" And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death.

When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, "I am thirsty."

A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Jesus: The Key

One of the most difficult things to do as a new Christian is to understand what the heck the Old Testament is all about. Even seasoned Christians have difficulty with it, and often choose not to read or study that part of the Bible. Someone much smarter than me has articulated what Jesus himself was talking about in Luke 24:13-49. Enjoy:

Jesus is the true and better Adam who passed the test in the garden and whose obedience is imputed to us.

Jesus is the true and better Abel who, though innocently slain, has blood now that cries out, not for our condemnation, but for acquittal.

Jesus is the true and better Abraham who answered the call of God to leave all the comfortable and familiar and go out into the void not knowing wither he went to create a new people of God.

Jesus is the true and better Isaac who was not just offered up by his father on the mount but was truly sacrificed for us. And when God said to Abraham, “Now I know you love me because you did not withhold your son, your only son whom you love from me,” we can look at God taking his son up the mountain and sacrificing him and say, “Now we know that you love us because you did not withhold your son, your only son, whom you love from us.”

Jesus is the true and better Jacob who wrestled and took the blow of justice we deserved, so we, like Jacob, only receive the wounds of grace to wake us up and discipline us.

Jesus is the true and better Joseph who, at the right hand of the king, forgives those who betrayed and sold him and uses his new power to save them.

Jesus is the true and better Moses who stands in the gap between the people and the Lord and who mediates a new covenant.

Jesus is the true and better Rock of Moses who, struck with the rod of God’s justice, now gives us water in the desert.

Jesus is the true and better Job, the truly innocent sufferer, who then intercedes for and saves his stupid friends.

Jesus is the true and better David whose victory becomes his people’s victory, though they never lifted a stone to accomplish it themselves.

Jesus is the true and better Esther who didn’t just risk leaving an earthly palace but lost the ultimate and heavenly one, who didn’t just risk his life, but gave his life to save his people.

Jesus is the true and better Jonah who was cast out into the storm so that we could be brought in.

Jesus is the real Rock of Moses, the real Passover Lamb, innocent, perfect, helpless, slain so the angel of death will pass over us. He’s the true temple, the true prophet, the true priest, the true king, the true sacrifice, the true lamb, the true light, the true bread.

The Bible’s really not about you — it’s about him.

Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our sin. Through Him we can know and experience God's love and plan for our life.

He Died in Our Place
"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

He Rose From the Dead
"Christ died for our sins...He was buried...He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures...He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred..."

He Is the Only Way to God
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.'" 7

This diagram illustrates that God has bridged the gulf which separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.
It is not enough just to know these three principles...

God created Adam and Eve

So what is the story of Jesus? The story doesn't begin with his birth, and it doesn't end with his death. It begins before the creation of the universe, and it ends after it ceases to exist. His life, death, and resurrection are part of a plan he helped architect.

Being at the right hand of God the Father, he helped to form the world. He was there when God created Adam and Eve. He was there when Adam and Eve walked in communion with God in the Garden.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God's command not to eat of the forbidden fruit, sin entered the world, and man deserved to die. However, God did not want man to die, and began a plan to rescue man from his sin. His plan became a promise when He made a covenant with Abraham, the father of the nation of Israel. His promise was fulfilled with the birth of a Messiah, the one who would save all people from their sins. His name was Jesus, the Christ, the one foretold by the prophets of Israel, God's chosen nation.

Thank Him for dying for you

Jesus was and is amazing. The book of Revelation describes his voice 'like the sound of rushing waters'.

This voice that spoke the universe into being.

This voice that told a woman caught in adultery that she wasn't condemned.

This voice called Mary Magdalene by name in the garden by His tomb.

This voice speaks down through history and says,"Follow me"

God made the universe, including the earth and people. He made people in His own image and intended for them to live in relationship with Himself.

When we do wrong things, this causes us to be out of relationship with God. We need to be in right relationship with God when we die to go to heaven.

2000 years ago God sent His Son, Jesus. He is the means by which all people are brought into a right relationship with God.


We need to recognise that we have done wrong things, that we can never by totally pure or holy by ourselves.

We can accept Jesus, who took the punishment for our sin Himself on the cross. We must accept Him for everything that he is, both Lord and Saviour.

Jesus of Nazareth is the central figure of the Christian religion, a savior believed to be both God incarnate and a human being.He is also known as Jesus Christ, the term "Christ" meaning anointed or chosen one. Most of the details of his life are unclear, and much of what is known about his life comes from the four Gospels of the Bible. The Gospels tell the story of Jesus's auspicious birth in a stable in Bethlehem, and then of his life as an adult, a teacher with miraculous powers who foretold his own death to his closest followers, called apostles. Jesus, betrayed by the apostle Judas, was crucified by the Romans, and his resurrection three days after his death was taken as proof of his divinity. The date of Jesus's birth to Mary is celebrated each December 25th as Christmas Day.



Jesus in Islam

Islam holds Jesus to be a prophet, or messenger of God, along with Muhammad, Moses, Abraham, Noah, and others. In particular, Jesus (Arabic: عيسى‎ `Īsā) is described as the Messiah, sent to guide the Children of Israel (banī isrā'īl) with a new scripture, the Injīl (gospel).^[196] According to the Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be God's final revelation, Jesus was born to Mary (Arabic: Maryam) as the result of virginal conception, a miraculous event which occurred by the decree of God (Arabic: Allah). To aid him in his quest, Jesus was given the ability to perform miracles. These included speaking from the cradle, curing the blind and the lepers, as well as raising the dead; all by the permission of God. Furthermore, Jesus was helped by a band of disciples (the ḥawāriyūn). Islam rejects historians assertions that Jesus was crucified by the Romans, instead claiming that he had been raised alive up to heaven. Islamic traditions narrate that he will return to earth near the day of judgement to restore justice and defeat al-Masīḥ ad-Dajjāl (lit. "the false messiah", also known as the Antichrist) and the enemies of Islam. As a just ruler, Jesus will then die.^[197]

Like all prophets in Islam, Jesus is considered to have been a Muslim, as he preached for people to adopt the straight path in submission to God's will. Islam denies that Jesus was God or the son of God, stating that he was an ordinary man who, like other prophets, had been divinely chosen to spread God's message. Islamic texts forbid the association of partners with God (shirk), emphasizing the notion of God's divine oneness (tawhīd). As such, Jesus is referred to in the Qur'an frequently as the "son of Mary" ("Ibn Maryam").^[197][198] Numerous titles are given to Jesus in the Qur'an, such as mubārak (blessed) and `abd-Allāh (servant of God). Another title is al-Masīḥ ("the messiah; the anointed one" i.e. by means of blessings), although it does not correspond with the meaning accrued in Christian belief. Jesus is seen in Islam as a precursor to Muhammad, and is believed by Muslims to have foretold the latter's coming.^[197]

Ahmadiyya views

According to the early 20th century teachings of the Ahmadi Muslims, Jesus did not die on the cross, but after his apparent death and resurrection (or resuscitation from his tomb) he journeyed east to Kashmir to further teach the gospel until his natural death^[199] (The general notion of Jesus in

Kashmir is older than the Ahmadi tradition,^[200] and is discussed at length by Grönbold^[201] and Klatt^[202]).

Following Jesus' death of natural causes (so the Ahmadi tradition) "at a ripe old age of roughly 120 years",^[203] Jesus according to Ahmadi doctrine was then laid to rest in

Srinagar, and that the tomb of a sage known locally as Yuz Asaf (which in Kashmiri mean

Leader of the Healed"^[204]) is really the tomb of Jesus of Naza

the founder of the sect, "purporting that this doctrine disagreed with the Koran and therefore had to be looked upon as a heresy".^[206]

Judaism's view

The Mishneh Torah (an authoritative work of Jewish law) states in Hilkhot Melakhim 11:10–12 that Jesus is a

"stumbling block" who makes "the majority of the world err to serve a divinity besides God".^[209] According to Conservative Judaism, Jews who believe Jesus is the Messiah have "crossed the line out of the Jewish community".^[210] Reform Judaism, the modern progressive movement, states "For us in the Jewish community anyone who claims that Jesus is their savior is no longer a Jew and is an apostate."^[211]

Bahá'í views

The Bahá'í Faith

, founded in 19th-century Persia, considers Jesus, along with Muhammad, the Buddha, Krishna, and Zoroaster, and other messengers of the great religions of the world to be Manifestations of God (or prophets), with both human and divine stations.^[212]

Hindu views

The Hindu beliefs about Jesus vary. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) considers Jesus to be a shaktyavesha Avatar, the beloved son of Krishna who came down to Earth to preach God consciousness. Contemporary Sant Mat movements regard Jesus as a Satguru. Ramakrishna believed that Jesus was an Incarnation of God.^[213] Swami

Vivekananda has praised Jesus and cited him as a source of strength and the epitome of perfection.^[214]

Paramahansa Yogananda taught that Jesus was

the reincarnation of Elisha and a student of John the Baptist, the reincarnation of Elijah.^[215]

Buddhist views

Buddhists' views of Jesus differ. Some Buddhists, including Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama^[216] regard Jesus as a bodhisattva who dedicated his life to the welfare of human beings. The 14th century Zen master Gasan Jōseki indicated that the Gospels were written by an enlightened being.^[217]
