Modern highway follows ancient via Maris, an east-west trade route Samaria
Soon after healing the centurion’s servant, Jesus, his disciples and a great multitude went to a city called Nain.
As he came near to the city gate, there was a funeral procession carrying a dead boy out of the city. The boy was the only son of a widow, and many of the people from the city were with her.
When Jesus saw her, he told her:
Don’t weep.
He approached the coffin and those who were carrying the coffin stood still.
Jesus said to the young man:
I say to you, get up. And the boy who had been dead sat up and began to speak. Jesus gave him to his mother.
Everyone became filled with fear, and they glorified God, saying
A great prophet has appeared among us, and God has visited his people.
The news of the dead boy being raised to life spread out to all of Judea and beyond.
