they ask jesus about paying taxes to the emperor
then come to jesus some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to trap him with a question. they came and said to jesus. "teachers, we know you are honest man, and you are not afraid of anyone, because you are not partial, and truly teach the way of god in honesty. it is we may pay taxes to the emperor or not? should we pay or not? "But Jesus knew their hypocrisy, and said to them: "Why you tempt me? bring here a dinar to see?" then they give it, so jesus asked them, "who is in the image and who inscription is this?" they answered: 'pictures and writings of the emperor. "Jesus then said to them: "Give to Caesar what you shall give to Caesar and give to God what you shall give to the gods!" they were very surprised to hear him.
